Aftercare is the difference between extensions that look stunning for three weeks and ones that start falling out before your first refill. At My Secret Studio, I always take time to walk through aftercare because the service doesn’t end when you walk out the door.

Here are the most common mistakes and what to do instead.

1. Getting them wet in the first 24 hours

The adhesive needs time to cure properly. Water, steam, sweat, or even a long bath in the first 24 hours can weaken the bond before it fully sets. Be patient with it. It’s absolutely worth it.

2. Skipping the cleanse

A lot of people think not washing their lashes is protecting them. It’s actually the opposite. Oil, makeup residue, and bacteria build up over time and break down the adhesive while also irritating the lash line. Cleaning your lashes 2 to 3 times a week with a specially formulated lash shampoo (oil-free, like ours) keeps them looking fresh and lasting longer.

3. Using oil-based products near your eyes

Oil-based makeup removers, moisturizers, sunscreens… all of them are enemies of lash adhesive. Check the ingredient list on your products and keep anything oil-based away from the eye area.

4. Sleeping face-down or on your side without protection

Friction from your pillow can bend or pull out extensions before their time. Try sleeping on your back when you can, or switch to a silk pillowcase which creates significantly less friction.

5. Touching or picking at them

We know the reflex just happens sometimes. But manipulating your extensions, especially when one feels loose, can pull out the natural lash along with it. If something feels off, reach out to us before trying to fix it yourself.
